Massage Program FAQ
Is financial aid available for Massage Therapy students? What if I do not qualify for a loan or financial aid?
Several options are available to help you finance the cost of the Massage Therapy program at WSCC. All eligible students wishing to apply for federal student aid should fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Should you choose not to apply for federal student aid, or if your Cost of Attendance cannot be adequately funded with federal student aid funds, you may consider applying for an alternative student loan to help cover your educational expenses. Please look at the “Finances” section on the main page or contact the financial aid office at finaid@wschiro.edu or call 503-251-5709.

Are scholarships from outside agencies available?
We recommend visiting www.ed.gov for additional information on scholarships and financial aid.
The Financial Aid Office also has a binder with information about scholarship opportunities.

What resources are available for job placement?
Career Services keeps current listings of job opportunities that are related to Massage Therapy and Doctor of Chiropractic. There are also chiropractic alumni that are interested in employing our Massage Therapy Program graduates.

After I complete the Massage Therapy Program at Western States Chiropractic College, am I licensed to practice?
After completion of the Massage Therapy Program you will be eligible to sit for state examinations. Each state has its own rules and regulations about licensing massage therapists. You need to check into the requirements of that state if you are planning to move.

What is my earning potential after graduation?
That depends on where you want to work and how much. Massage therapists can work in spas, hospitals, clinics, chiropractor’s offices, physical therapy offices, cruise ships, etc. Whether you work for someone else or open your own business makes a difference in how much you make. According to the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual income (including tips) for a massage therapist who provides 15 hours of massage per week is $29,250, compared to $26,210 for full-time physical therapist aides, $28,140 for fulltime physicians’ office workers, $34,780 for full-time recreational therapists, and $26,610 for other full-time healthcare support workers.

How is Western States Chiropractic College accredited?
We are regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Our program has been approved by the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists, the Washington State Board of Massage, and we are included in the American Massage Therapy Association’s Council of Schools. We have also been approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. We are in the process of applying for approval from COMTA

I have already completed one year of Anatomy and Physiology from another institution, do I need to take the Anatomy and Physiology for the Massage Therapy program?
We accept transfer credits from accredited massage programs and accredited colleges/universities. The number of hours and the content of the course would be examined before we accept any credits. Any student who would like courses to be evaluated for transfer should contact the admissions office (admissions@wschiro.edu).

Will my courses transfer to another college or university?
Our credits are regionally accredited and may be transferred to other colleges and universities. The transfer institution will have the final say in accepting or not accepting coursework. Please contact them to determine what courses will transfer.

Is the program designed only for evening classes? Will there be morning or afternoon classes offered?
Currently courses are only offered in the evening from 6:00 until 9:00 or 10:00 pm during the weekdays. Additional clinic time may be required on Saturdays.

Do I get a photo ID and e-mail account?
WSCC photo ID and e-mail accounts will be supplied during registration.

Is it possible to attend the Massage Therapy Program part time?
Not really. Since we only offer the courses twice a year, it's not really set up for part-time unless you are transferring credits.
Contact admissions@wschiro.edu for additional information.

Is there a place to eat on campus?
The Chiro Café has hot food, salad bar, drinks and snacks. Their hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. The bookstore sells wraps, drinks and snacks. The bookstore is open until 4pm and closes earlier on Fridays. Massage classes start at 6pm, so if you will not be on campus when the café or bookstore is open, please bring your own food or eat before class.

Am I required to have student health insurance while in the Massage Therapy Program?
Massage therapy students are not required to have health insurance while completing their program. However, health insurance is available for purchase through USI Northwest. There are two plans available for purchase on a quarterly basis. They differ in the deductible amounts and the coverage. This includes prescriptions but not optometry or dental. Coverage for spouses and dependents is also available for an additional charge. Please contact student services for additional information.

Do Massage Therapy students receive free care in the chiropractic clinic? What about my family?
WSCC massage students may receive care in the Out Patient Clinic for $10/visit. This does not include x-rays or lab work. Family members may receive care in the WSCC Out Patient Clinic for the same rates that are available to the public. These rates may vary based on several factors. Please call the clinic for more details at: (503) 255-6771.
