Student Life: W.A. Budden Memorial Library

The W.A. Budden Memorial Library supports the academic needs of the students, faculty, alumni, and field doctors in the Pacific Northwest. The Library consists of a focused collection of materials, a computer lab, multimedia studio, and study areas.

The collection consists of approximately 10000 books, including all recommended and required texts, 3000 audiovisual items, and 225 current serial subscriptions—as well as numerous models and charts and access to an ever-growing number of databases. The library endeavors to collect all book and serial titles about chiropractic. In addition, interlibrary loan services are available to all staff, students, and faculty free of charge.

The library computer lab gives patrons access the Internet and campus intranet (including e-mail). Laptops are also available for in-library student use and for use off-campus for clinic and classroom sponsored events. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to avail themselves of the multimedia studio and audiovisual equipment (by arrangement with library staff).  The building provides students with an excellent quiet place for study between classes, during evenings and on weekends. There are study carrels, group study areas, and tables available for use.

Library staff are available to assist students in making full use of the educational and research facilities. The librarian is available to teach database/internet searching skills and basic computer skills on a one-on-one basis or, by request, to any class or group of interested students. The audiovisual technician can instruct anyone interested in how to use the audiovisual equipment available.

Additional resources are available to WSCC students through a shared-use agreement with the Oregon Health Sciences University, the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Upon presentation of a valid WSCC student identification, WSCC students, staff, and faculty can get a library card at any of these locations. The Multnomah County Library system is also available for student use; cards are free and can be applied for online, and a huge number of general use databases are available for use with a Multnomah County Library card.
